Requirements
BCIA Tests
Health requirements for bulls being
consigned to one or more of the Alabama BCIA Bull Evaluations or tests
remain the same as last year. This health program has dramatically reduced
health problems associated with co-mingling cattle from several sources.
The required treatments are listed
on the Health certificate. Immunizations against 7-way Blackleg, Haemopilis
somnus, Leptospirosis 5-way, and the respiratory complex are needed.
Some required vaccines are available in combinations which can reduce the
number of injections. For example: 7-way clostridial and Haemophilus
somnus are available as one vaccine, as are IBR/PI3/BVD/BRSV.
"Pasteurella haemolytica
with leukotoxoid" vaccine is required. The following are the currently
available products:
Follow label directions and use the
product of your choice. If you choose a product that only has one vaccination
required, Auburn veterinarians
suggest giving the injection by the first vaccination date.
Consult with your veterinarian
about particular vaccines and health products which are best suited for
your herd. Every herd is different. Your veterinarian is the best source
of advice about what fits your situation.
Also, those herds which are not
Brucellosis certified must have bulls tested no more than 30 days
prior to delivering to the test site. In addition, have your veterinarian
sign the "Alabama BCIA Bull Test Health & Treatment Certificate." The
specific test supervisor will provide you with the appropriate copy of
the Health Treatment certificate.
