Health Requirements for Bull Evaluations

The required treatments are listed on the Health certificate. Immunizations against 7-way Blackleg, Haemophilis somnus, Leptospirosis-5 way, Pasteurella haemolytica and the respiratory complex are needed. Some required vaccines are available in combinations, which can reduce the number of injections. For example: 7-way clostridial and Haemophilus somnus are available as one vaccine, as are IBR/PI3/BVD/BRSV. A partial list of available vaccines and bacterins are in the following table:

Consult with your veterinarian about particular vaccines and health products, which are best suited for your herd. Every herd is different. Your veterinarian is the best source of advice about what fits your situation. Read and follow label directions carefully. Properly handling and administering vaccines will result in proper immunity protection from disease. Remember it takes longer for an animal to build full immunity given killed vaccines and bacterins (allow 30 days). Modified live vaccines properly administered will build full immunity generally within 14 to 16 days.

Also, those herds which are not Brucellosis certified must have bulls tested no more than 30 days prior to delivering to the test site. In addition, have your veterinarian sign the "Alabama BCIA Bull Test Health & Treatment Certificate" provided by the test supervisor.

The following chart provides last possible vaccination dates for the various bull evaluations for 2004-05.
